Article - Driving for Distance without Breaking your Back
Golfers will try all kinds of desperate acts in hopes of improving their driving distances and their abilities to drive for new and further distances than ever before. The problem is that a good many of these things do very little, if anything, to actually improve the game of the golfers attempting them. More often than not the techniques and tips will hurt your game rather than making it better. If you want to get the most out of your golf game when driving for distance you would do yourself a favor to consider some of the following tips.
Don’t concentrate on swinging harder.
This is a huge mistake that many golfers make when attempting to swing for distance. The problem is that they often pull and stretch things that shouldn’t even really be taxed as the result of a golf swing in addition to searching high and low for where their ball actually landed. It is often not a good scenario.
Rather than spending efforts trying to swing harder and get more power you should be devoting your attention to swinging your club correctly. This will accomplish so much more in the end. While “grip it and rip it” isn’t the best advice for all golfers it can greatly improve the games when driving for distance of golfers who over-think their swings.
Be consistent.
Pay attention to what you do in every swing. Notice differences that are made and study the results of those differences. When you find something that works to improve your driving for distance, then you should consistently incorporate that particular movement into every drive you make.
Avoid gimmicks.
The best advice on improving your driving for distance will often come from sources that aren’t trying to sell you something. Of course you will get all kinds of advice from your fellow golfers but take that with a grain of salt. If their wisdom was all that wonderful, chances are that they would be on the PGA tour rather than hanging out the local golf course with you and the rest of their buddies. Seek wisdom from those that are offering advice freely without encouraging you to buy their 5 part series unless they are offering a series of personal lessons tailored to your specific golf game.
Many of these lessons, tools, and techniques are designed for a wide audience rather than a specific audience and I don’t know about you but I’m a specific golfer not a general golfer. I prefer advice I’m paying for to be custom suited for my specific golfing and driving for distance needs.
I know of very few golfers, even those on the PGA tour that don’t occasionally struggle with driving for distance. All golfers have good and bad days along the way. The trick for you is in find a way to have more good than bad days and then understanding what changes you made in your golf game to make this happen. If you do this, then driving for distance will be an occasional agony rather than a daily struggle.
