The Secret to Playing Good Golf is to Keep it Simple

Too many times, the beginning, and even the experienced golfer, will focus too much on the minute and not enough on the ultimate goal–the target of the golf shot–when he swings the club. This results in a lack of relaxation, even a paralysis that totally prevents us from realizing our potential as golfers. True, we need to have the basics of a good golf swing and approach ingrained in our routine–elements such as grip, alignment, tempo, posture, etc.–but, ultimately, once we have spent the time needed in drills and practice time on the range, we need to shift our focus to the target of our golf shot ONLY, and leave these mechanical aspects of the golf range behind us in our practice sessions.

Our bodies are miraculously geared to react to our subconscious mind. If we do shift our focus while playing golf to the target of each and every golf shot, fully seeing every detail of the exact place that we desire the ball to land, we will be totally amazed by the result of each swing and, ultimately the score that results from our efforts. It is absolutely impossible, within all of the miraculous movements involved in a golf swing, to control what each part of our body is doing. We cannot, through conscious effort, WILL our body to make a perfect golf swing that results in a desired result. However, TARGET AWARENESS AND FOCUS, almost magically at times, WILL result in a desired result, a great golf shot, in most instances.

Focusing on the target will free your mind and body to be the athletic machine that you can be. As miraculous as it may sound, if you focus solely on the target of your golf shot, in multi-sensory and complete detail, each and every swing, you WILL improve your golf score, without conscious effort related to where each of your body parts is related to completing the golf swing. In addition, you will incidentally improve your enjoyment of the game immensely.

You need to leave the practice range, the drills, the minute analysis behind you and PLAY golf. Playing golf is best done through a child-like focus on the target. This focus will free your body to relax, and you will become the golfer that your were meant to be–a good golfer–and your scores will drop consistently. A golfer who focuses on the target will have more fun and enjoy each and every moment on the golf course more fully.
