Thinking of New Golf Clubs – Some Factors that You Need to Consider

There are many things to consider when you are thinking about getting or buying golf clubs. Whether these clubs are new or used, there are really 5 main factors that are going to determine whether the clubs you are thinking about are going to work correctly for you.

If you don’t consider these 5 factors you are going to find that the clubs are going to not work and your game is going to suffer for this.  So take a moment and learn what these are. You will be glad that you did.

How important is the Grip

You need to find out how thick the grip on your clubs need to be. If the grips on the clubs are to thin for you, then you are going to have to much hand action, and the oppisit is true when the grips are to big, you are not going to have enough hand action. Here’s how to determine what the right size should be.

If your grip is the correct size, you should be able to have the middle and ring finger on the left hand barely touch the pad of your thumb when you are holding the club. If your fingers don’t touch the thumb pad, then the grip is too big. If the fingers dig into the pad, the grip is to thin.

How about the Golf Shaft

Some things to consider is your height, build and your strength when you are choosing a club. One thing is if you are really tall, you are going to need longer and probably stiffer shafts.

Another thing to consider is what does you swing sound like. If your swing makes a loud swish noise and the shaft is bending like a fly fishing pole at the top of the swing, then you need a very strong shaft. Now if your swinging the club and it doesn’t make any noise and you could hang laundry on the shaft at the top of the swing, then you need a regular shaft. If you are somewhere inbetween then you are going to need a medium to stiff shaft.

Lets talk about the loft of the club

Now what is your typical ball flight. Are you a slicer or do you hook the ball. If you slice the ball, then you could get clubs with less loft.  You could even get off-set heads. Both of these are going to help you eliminate your common problem of slicing.

Now the clubhead itself

Now what you need to do is to consider the size of the clubhead. Today, you will find standard, midsize and oversized heads. If you are a beginner, I would recommend that you use the oversized heads to start with.

These bigger clubheads are much more forgiving. This means that if you don’t hit the ball in the middle of the club everytime, you are still going to hit it good with the oversized heads. Hitting good alot will also help psychologically too. With the jumbo sized clubheads today, one thing that you will be thinking is “how could I possibly miss with this club”.

Now for the irons

For the advanced players, they are going to choose irons that are made exactly for their swings. There are forged, muscle-backed irons for the players that hit the ball on the clubface percisely. There are cavity-backed irons, and those are for the players that hit the ball all over the clubface.

The bigger the clubface the more room you have for errors. The bigger head metal woods are very popular today. These are for all of the wild swingers out there today. There are a very forgiving club and thus its popularity.

As you can see there are many factors that go into picking a set of clubs. There are a lot of clubmakers out there today and they can build you a set of clubs that are made exactly for you. With a custom set of clubs, you can only play better than getting a set off the rack.
